Sister Guillaume, S.C.I.M., made this memento shadow box for her sister, Anna Violette, on the occasion of Anna's graduation from school in June 1906.
Each of the 15 paper doves bears the name of a graduate and is mounted on a tiny spring so that the flock of doves "flutter" with any vibration in the room.

1912
The Victrola IV, an acoustic phonograph, was made by the Victor Talking Machine Company.
Acoustic phonographs were completely mechanical, there were no electrically powered elements. When played, the needle rode in the groves on the record. The variations in the groove moved the needle to reproduce the original sounds vibrations. The needle was attached to a diaphragm which vibrated, reproducing, to a limited degree, the original sound. The tone arm is a hollow tube which, attached to the back of the wooden cabinet, acted as a megaphone. The doors on the front of the cabinet provided some control of the recordings volume.

Bangor and Aroostook Railroad snow plow built by the Russell Snow Plow Company of Ridgeway, Pennsylvania. This snow plow is located on a siding in Van Buren.
The snow plows had living quarters for the operator because they were sometimes gone "on the road" for days. In the rear of the car was a compartment for the operating pistons that powered the plow wings and the "flanger." The flanger feet cleared snow away from below the rail height to make clearance for the wheels.

The Governor Brann School, located on Route 1 about a mile south of Van Buren, was built in 1934.
The school closed in 1950s when it became part of SAD 24.
The building has been restored to its original condition -- except for a modern furnace -- with the original paint scheme, hard wood floors, and a "two holer".
The Town of Cyr Plantation (population 117) now uses the building for a polling station and for town meetings.
